Most of us, creatives, love it when we are offering our talents for the Lord at the onset of our faith. At first we are so willing to write books and blogs, draw, paint, write poems, and sing to glorify Him. But after a few season, we found ourselves tired and maybe disappointed. We create but we receive a little or no compensation much less praise. Creating for the Lord becomes a lonely endeavor for us. It turned out to be just an obligation devoid of joy.
Today, let me share some tips to renew our creative spirits and help us continue with our service to our Father in heaven.
.01 Renew the Right Spirit
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
Examine yourself why you cannot create for the Lord this time. Why are you busy? It might be because you are working just like me or you just lost the zest of creating. Maybe you’re just sick and tired of using your talent in something that doesn’t add to your revenue. Then, I urge you to pray this time and ask the Lord for the right spirit.
Creating for the Lord is not about us. We create to serve Him. We create to reach out for the lost that has to meet the Lord. We create to encourage others. If all these reasons were lost in our hearts then, we really need the intervention of the Holy Spirit. He will not disappoint us. In no time He will return in us the joy of creating. Just have faith.
.02 Ask Him to give you the Strength
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
All of us have to work or do our many other responsibilities. Most of the time, we lack sleep so we prefer sleeping other than creating. It seems our creative minds and hands lost their vigor. We simply don’t have the strength to continue on creating.
Let God come to our rescue. Let’s pray for the additional strength we need so we could still create for Him. Or better still; let’s prioritize creating over our other schedules, since we’re serving here our Lord Most High who deserves to be the first in our lives. Thus, when the time comes that we are already tired, we had finished creating.
Again don’t worry, if our hearts are once again willing to serve the Lord, tiredness will just disappear. You will find creating again. You will find yourself passionate again because we are just wired to do that.
Our creative lives are not complete without creating anything. We will die inside soon if we suppress our desire for creating. So, if we can’t because of lack of strength, we can go anytime to the throne of grace for our supply. So please, go now.
.03 Remember to Seek First the Kingdom of God
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
This is what I am telling you in number two. We have to prioritize the Lord in all we do. We have to put our ministry above all. We can fail in most of our other endeavors, but please don’t fail in the areas where we serve our God.
In my case, it’s writing for the Lord that gives me the opportunity to serve Him. I am into drawing, too but writing is my number one way to communicate His message to the world. To make it my priority, I write every day. I research about it. I make it my goal to decipher the art of grammar and apply it the best I can. It always comes first because this is what I can easily bring to the Kingdom of God to offer as my pleasing sacrifice.
In earlier years, people of the Lord offer the best kind of animals as their burnt offerings. The animal must be spotless, fat, the best among all the animals. Nowadays, we are not asked to offer animals, we are asked to offer our talents and our lives.
So come to think about this when you offer your talents to Him. Offer the best kind. Offer it first to the Lord. This is a command with a promise, “… and all these things shall be added unto you.” The notion that we received nothing in return of offering our talents is not true; we are just so blind to see that we are being provided. We lack nothing of the basic things we need because He supplies if we serve for His Kingdom first.
.04 Remember your ministry.
“Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;”
(2 Corinthians 4:1)
This blog, as well as the ChristianBlessings are my ministry. Although, there are moments when I would like to give these up in exchange of my working mom blog, I can’t. These blogs are where I can serve the Lord. This is where I can freely show myself as a Christian because, I believe, that in here I am talking mostly to Christians—the creative Christians.
In times that I am losing my interest in these blogs, I remind myself that these are my ministry. We never choose our ministry; it was given to us by God. It is up to us what to do with it, but since it was freely given, we must not disappoint the one who entrust it to us. We must say thank you to God by appreciating and improving these gifts.
Remember also that since it’s a ministry, we must give without expecting anything in return. In Tagalog, it’s “kawang gawa” where we are like social workers, we served without monetary rewards. We are just offering ourselves for the sake of helping others. What we only earned in return is deepest joy which is not comparable with any amount.
May you remember this when you feel you can’t serve the Lord anymore.
May you remember those people who are waiting there for your input because they long to be encourage, again and again.
Do not disappoint them.
.05 Remember your first love.
“Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou has left thy first love.”
Who is your first love?
Since God wants to be the first in our lives, He is our first love and He must forever be our first love.
We can’t forget our first love, right? Wrong. In the case of our Lord, it’s easy for us to forget Him depending upon our situation or sometimes, emotion. When we are not continually communicating with Him, time will come that we will forget Him.
This is the same with our creative talents. When He’s not included in our daily creation, we will soon forget Him and just serve the world and the money. We will try to please the world because they will become gods to us—the gods who are willing to give us material possessions and popularity.
Don’t be lost in that trap. Always remember Jesus, you first love, the one who’s able to give you everything you need without the shadow of turning. Remember Him in everything you do and include Him in your every creation. Remember Him, who was and is your first love because when you do, love will again burn in your heart and you will never tire of creating to please Him.
.06 Create anyway.
“So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.
Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.
Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.”
When all was said and done, and still you feel you can’t create, create anyway.
Just create no matter how you feel or what you think or what your body dictates. Greater is He that is in you than He that is in the world. God is able to move you because in Him we live and move and have our being. The Holy Spirit can quicken you. And Jesus is able to do whatever He pleases through you.
Jonah was once commanded by God to go to Nineveh to preach the people there about the Lord. But he’s so stubborn that he went to Tarnish instead to disobey God. We all know what happened, right? He was eaten by a big fish and he stayed there for three days. He was finally spit out by the fish in Nineveh, the last place on earth he wanted to go.
What’s the lesson here? That even if we are not willing to do His will, He will make a way.
So create anyway because we have no choice but to follow the One who sent us here. In time, we will reap the golden harvest of our efforts and we will be exceedingly glad. But for now, just create.
I hope now, you are encourage to create again, so grab that pen or pencil and let us begin with our next project.
