So, you’re a Christian wanting to start a blog because you have the desire to spread the Good News to the world?
In this post, I would like to share my perspective on how to be a good Christian Blogger. This means, I will not going to touch on the technicalities but more on the characteristics we all must possess in order to serve the Lord through our blogs.
.01 Christian Blogger examines their motives first.
“Choose a good reputation over great riches, for being held in high esteem is better than having silver or gold.” (Proverbs 22:1)
There are many reasons why we start a blog.
It’s better that we know the “WHY” first before we start our blog because if our reason is not for the glory of God, we will eventually be discouraged and stop.
Christian blogging is not for those who would only want to earn online. This is not also for those who would want to gain popularity.
It is for those whose motives are clear—To Serve God—and not for those who seeks gratification for themselves.
So before we start our blog, let us first define the reasons behind our desires.
.02 Christian Bloggers help and encourage others
“Never walk away from someone who deserves help; you hand is God’s hand for that person.” (Pro. 3:27)
We must be willing to help and encourage those who are new in Christ, those who are confused, problematic, discouraged, and hopeless. These people are our readers. They are the ones with whom we dedicate our blogs.
We are also here to share our testimonies, the truth of the gospel and how Christ works continually through us.
And we must be willing to do all of these things without expecting anything in return… This is the saddest truth, but not at all, since God will certainly reward us of all our services in due time. He will also provide all our needs just as long as we are doing His will.
.03 Christian Bloggers Read their Bibles Daily.
“Trust God from the bottom of your heart, don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.” (Pro. 3:5-6)
It’s important that we have our time alone with God to meditate on His Word. It’s important that we know how to listen to Him because His message is what we will impart to our readers.
It is critical for the Christian Bloggers to study the Bible carefully because we are influencers of our own followers. We are responsible to lead them to the right direction and we are responsible to lead them to Jesus.
If we are so careless, our followers will either fall astray or believe our wrong opinions.
The key here is to trust God, to consult His Word (the Bible), to deviate from our own understanding and to be open to what the Lord is saying to us. Let this be the sole basis of our every Blog post. Let us allow His Word to speak and let the Bible explain itself.
.04 Christian Bloggers read a lot of Christian books, blogs, commentaries, faqs and articles.
“Study to shew thyself approve unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Tim. 2:15)
Be a wide reader to hone your faith. Read a lot of Christian books and devotionals. You may access some of the online libraries to read for free, or download free pdf books . You may buy old books in book sale or simply borrow books from your local library. You can also read other Christian blogs, articles, magazines, booklets or leaflets.
This will also help us gain knowledge and ideas for our blog posts and this can make us be a better writer.
Just be careful, though on believing everything you read. We all know that even in the Christian world of literature, there are Christians who only write for the sake of money and there are those whose beliefs can lead us away from the truth. Be careful on that, and learn to test every spirit as it says in the Bible. Make sure your faith is already established and make sure that the books you will read next is able to enhance your faith. But if it makes you doubt your faith, put it away and don’t read it anymore, and better ask the Holy Spirit for guidance.
Always ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in the kind of knowledge you would like to learn and impart with your readers.
.05 Christian Bloggers make their Blogs their Ministries.
“Be sure to give to the Lord the best portions of the gifts given to you.” (Numbers 18:29)
This is important. Don’t just blog out of hobbies. Don’t blog to earn.
Like our church ministries, blog is also our ministry that requires commitment.
We have to think of it as our reasonable service to the Lord.
We have to think of doing it for the rest of our lives because this is where we can honor the Lord.
We have to think of it as the bearer of the Name of the Lord.
Believe me, if you make your blog your ministry, you will never get tired of doing it.
.06 Christian Bloggers do not worry about their stats.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses… and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)
They never worry about gaining a lot of readers or followers; this is not their main goal.
We are here to offer our talents, share our testimony, encourage others, and proclaim Jesus to glorify Him.
This means we are delivering our messages only for those few people whom God wants for us to reach. At the end of the day, it is still God who will decide on the number of readers or followers He will bring into our blog.
It is best to think that our purpose for now is to spread the Good News and let God do the rest. Who knows whom God will touch through our blog? And even if we reached only one soul, it is enough for the angels to sing praises in heaven.
Forget the SEO.
It’s enough that we know we have a powerful God who’s able to surpass the Search Engine if He wants to reach someone else’s soul through our blog. We don’t need to trick the system so it can bring a lot of searcher to our blogs. We just trust how our God works.
.07 Christian Bloggers keep their blog updated.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)
We are committed, right?
To whom? To our Father in Heaven and to our readers.
With what? Through our blogs.
So we must keep it updated.
We choose the right schedule day or days in a week and keep up with that. For me, it’s weekly blogging because I am a working mom. What’s important here is to choose the schedule which we will keep and where we can deliver a post on a daily basis.
.08 Christian bloggers pray for their blog and their readers.
“Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere.” (Ephe. 6:18)
We pray about our blogs as we pray about our lives. We pray for our readers who are waiting for our post on a daily basis. We pray that we have the right kind of wisdom so we always have something to write and impart with them. We pray for the provisions so we can keep up with our blogging and be able find ways to improve and deliver our messages. We also pray for health and safety so we can show up and ship.
.09 Christian Bloggers Find Time to learn the art of Writing.
“ Write the vision…” (Hab. 2:2)
We are writers for Jesus. If we don’t like writing we must find another way to serve the Lord. But if we have the desire to write for Him, we must be willing to learn everything about writing.
We may not need to be good writers right away, but at least learn as we blog. We must improve the quality of our writing not because we want to please our readers but because we are serving God. We must offer the highest kind of service we could give for our King of Kings.
And for our bonus tip:
.10 Christian Bloggers persevere
“You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” (Hebrews 10:36)
As long as we can type. As long as there’s something we can share… we will strive to blog for the Lord.
Even if we earn nothing… Even if we receive no praise…
We will stay blogging.
Because we are created for this, we are wired to do this, and this is where we give back to God our talents and gifts.
Blogging may somehow cease but we will remain writing for Him. And in the instance that blogging stays, here is where we would leave our legacies for the next generation.
I hope this blog post gives you new perspective on how to be a Christian Blogger. Feel free to add more in the comments section of this blog.
Thanks for making it to the bottom.
